Edge gilding is a finishing process that applies a metallic layer to the trimmed edges of a stacked card deck. After the cards are cut and aligned, the exposed edges are prepared and finished so the deck shows a reflective metallic appearance when viewed from the side or handled.
The result depends on the selected material, edge preparation, colour, coating, card thickness, and production settings. A smooth and accurately cut deck generally provides a cleaner edge finish, while the final appearance can also change with lighting and viewing angle.
For card decks, EzraCard offers three edge-finishing approaches: Edge Gilding, Edge Spraying, and Painted Edges. Each produces a different visual result and handling feel.
Edge Gilding is reflective and metallic. Edge Spraying creates a softer coloured surface. Painted Edges provide a solid painted colour. The most suitable option depends on the deck’s artwork, cardstock, desired appearance, handling requirements, and budget.
